Being a social media freelancer can be a rollercoaster of emotions. Although it offers the thrill of creative freedom and flexibility, it also entails the uncertainty of client turnover. As a seasoned freelancer, I have experienced both the joys of long-term partnerships and the heartaches of unexpected departures. In this blog post, I want to share my recent experience of losing a client without warning and how I’ve learned to accept change, grow from setbacks, and move forward with renewed determination.

A Shocking Call

Picture this: I was recently on vacation with my family, enjoying a few beautiful days at the beach, when my phone rang one morning. Expecting a call from a friend or family member, I answered cheerfully. However, the voice on the other end was one I did not expect — my client’s. They informed me, rather abruptly, that they had decided to switch to an agency and would no longer require my services. Seven years of loyal collaboration were gone with a single phone call. It stung, and it hurt, but I knew deep down that this was a part of the ever-changing landscape of freelancing.
