Mind of Mash: How to Make the Most of Your Weekends
So, you just finished the work week. Maybe it was easy, or maybe it was difficult — but either way, congrats! You made it to the weekend. Now the question remains, “How will you spend your time off? Will you kick your feet up and relax? Will you take a fun trip somewhere? Or will you spend time with your friends or loved ones?
No matter what you decide to do, it’s important to make the most of your brief break from work. Whenever you have days off or time away from your job, there are some things you can do to make those moments count.
Three Tips to Help You Enjoy Your Days Off
1. Make Plans
Give yourself something to look forward to. Perhaps that means seeing your friends and family, walking around town, going out to eat, or doing something else that brings you joy. No activity is too big or too small. For example, now and then, I go on trips with my girlfriend to a destination we haven’t visited before. Getting away doesn’t have to be an expensive long-distance endeavor. For instance, something as simple as going to a park, trying a new restaurant, or attending a concert can bring excitement and satisfaction.
The bottom line is this: If you don’t have any plans, you will likely do nothing! Decide in advance to do something you will look forward to. That will do wonders for your mental health and spice up your weekends!
2. Give Yourself Some “Me” Time
Sometimes it’s good to include some “me time” in your plans. After all, you just had a big, busy week of work, so maybe some downtime to rejuvenate your mind and body will be more beneficial than filling your weekend with activities. Consider making one of your days off a low-key day that entails some reading, self-reflection, and relaxation. If physical activities like hiking or exercising provide stress relief and help you unwind, they’re a great choice, too!
3. Work on Your Favorite Hobby
If you have a passion or a hobby you’ve always wanted to pursue, there’s no better time to act on it than during your off days. Those interests can give you a sense of purpose and bring more fulfillment to your life. For me, music has always been a passion. I also enjoy photography and crafty projects like Legos and puzzles. Hobbies don’t have to be overly involved or complicated to be fulfilling — they just need to be something that fits “you” and satisfies your preferences!
The time you have for yourself is some of the most precious time of your life. Make the most of it! Whether you opt to spend it doing things on your own or with the people you care about, get out there and enjoy every moment!
Your turn! How do you enjoy your weekends and time off?
